Only private shipyards can tender for India’s AIP submarines contest

India plans to launch a $12 billion tender to build six air-independent propulsion (AIP) submarines, only private shipyards will be allowed to submit their proposals.

Thus, only Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering and Larsen & Toubro are likely to compete in Project 75.

The Indian Navy also feels that state-owned yards have their hands full with excessive orders and have poor delivery records.
