According to the Pentagon’s annual Freedom of Navigation Report for 2014, the U.S. military challenged maritime claims by 19 countries in that year.
Half a dozen of those countries are in Latin America, such as: Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela.
The last time such a large figure was reported was before the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
