Raytheon’s M60 SLEP

Raytheon has proposed an upgrade package for the M60 main battle tank that it says will improve the tank’s firing range and accuracy at one third of the original cost.

To increase its lethalty, Raytheon has proposed to swap the 105 mm M68 rifled tank gun with a 120 mm M256 smoothbore gun. A new digital ballistic computer with a LCD display will ensure that the gunner can hit the targets more accurately.

The turret’s hydraulic drives will be removed and replaced with an electrical one, ensuring a smoother and faster operation.

Another major upgrade is to boost the tank’s engine power to 950 hp and Raytheon will recondition the engine to zero hour.
