Unable to source new engines from Ukraine to power its Project 11356 frigates, Russia has chosen to stop the program and switch its resources into the Project 22800 corvette program.

Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Viktor Chirkov announced the decision at the St. Petersburg International Maritime Defence Show (IMDS-2015) on Jul. 1.
At least 18 ships will be constructed and they will be powered by Russian-made engines.
