A group of Japan Maritime Self Defense Force warships are in Guam for GuamEX. The six destroyers and a command ship will not be joined by the U.S. Navy for the war games.

Instead, they will conduct their own gunnery firing and anti-submarine exercises off Guam on their own. A similar exercise was held in 2014 and a U.S. Navy destroyer participated.
