A 3-year-old pygmy goat that was the focus in the investigation and subsequent firing of the captain of USS Lake Erie is now ashore.

Master Chief Charlie had been Lake Erie’s adopted mascot since 2012.

Investigators say Capt. John Banigan had broken rules of the California Department of Food and Agriculture by not having the goat examined by a veterinarian after sailed from Hawaii to San Diego.
