Lockheed Martin recently rediscovered a treasure trove of drawings which contains various advance design concepts for military aircraft. Amongst those was an alternate configuration for the lightweight fighter, which eventually lead to the F-16.

USAF F-16 pilot nominated to run Guantánamo detention center

For the first time, a U.S. Air Force officer has been selected to command the detention center at Guantánamo since it was open in 2002.

Brig. Gen. Jose R. Monteagudo was nominated after Rear Adm. Fernandez Ponds declined the job due to personal reasons.

Philippine Defense Ministry confirms its interest in getting P-3C, helicopters from Japan

A spokesman from the Philippine Department of National Defense confirmed that Manila is interested in getting a P-3C from Japan.

“We can confirm that. We are interested to get a P3,” Peter Paul Galvez said.

T-38 loses front canopy

A T-38 from Vance Air Force Base lost it front canopy as the aircraft climbed to 10,000 feet. The jet was on a instrument flight to Topeka when the incident happened.

The two instructor pilots on board declared an emergency and returned to land safely.

Iraqi Brig. General missing after F-16IQ crashed in Arizona

An F-16 with the Arizona National Guard’s 162nd Wing crashed on Jun. 24 and the Iraqi defense ministry has confirmed the aircraft was flown by one of its pilots.

The missing pilot was identified as Brig. Gen. Rafid Mohammed Hassan. A press statement from the 162nd Wing said the jet belonged to Iraq.

RTAF F-16A lost control and entered ditch

A F-16A from the Royal Thai Air Force went into a ditch at Wing 1 on Jun. 24 after the jet lurched forward when the engine was started.

The pilot ejected safely during the accident which occurred at around 1 p.m.
