Cracks found on Swiss F-5s, ten to be withdrawn from service

The Swiss Air Force discovered that sixteen of its F-5 fighters have cracks in their fuselage. Ten of them will have to be retired from service.

The problem was first noticed in 2014 and this year another crack surfaced in a second plane. This lead to a fleet-wide inspection.

ONR demonstrates low-cost swarming UAVs

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has successfully demonstrated swarming unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as part of its Low-Cost UAV Swarming Technology (LOCUST) program.


A tube-based launcher that can send UAVs in rapid succession to overwhelm an adversary.

The small footprint of the launcher and the UAVs will enable the technology to be employed from ships, tactical vehicles, aircraft or other unmanned platforms.

Over a one month period, the Navy was able to get nine Coyote UAVs to synchronize amongst themselves and fly in formation.

Raytheon planning to test multi-mode seeker for Tomahawk Block IV

During the second quarter of 2015, Raytheon will test a modified Tomahawk Block IV missile nose cone attached to a T-39. The nose cone contains a new multi-mode seeker.

The new seeker has both active and passive radio frequency antennas that will allow future Tomahawks to broadcast active radar as well as passively receive target electromagnetic radiation.
