A Canadian special forces soldier was killed by friendly fire from Iraqi Kurdish forces on Mar. 6 at approximately 3:50 p.m.

Sergeant Andrew Joseph Doiron and his team members were returning to an observation post behind the front lines when the incident happened.

Three other members were injured in the incident and are receiving medical care for their injuries, a press release from the Canadian Armed Forces said.

Canadian troops are in Iraq to conduct advise and assist operations.
