Philippine Navy retires its oldest warship

The Philippine Navy has retired its oldest warship, the BRP Rajah Humabon (PS-11), at Sangley Point, Cavite on Mar. 15.

The former USS Atherton (DE-169) was commissioned into service in 1943, making it the last active World War II-era destroyer escort before its retirement this month. The ship was also one of the first warships to serve under the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force back in 1955.
