RAND: Taiwan and other small states should turn to naval mines to deter aggressors

Scott Savitz, a senior engineer at RAND Corporation, argues that naval mines can help small states such as Estonia, Georgia, Bahrain, and Taiwan deter potential aggressors.

Naval mines are cheap for small nations to purchase in large quantities and their technologies date back a century ago.

Savitz added that Taiwan should repeatedly exercise the ability to rapidly deploy minefields and such large number of fields with inert mines could make it difficult for invading forces to differentiate where the real mines were once the conflict had begun.
